2.9.1. Step 1: Run Register Retiming

Register retiming improves design performance by moving registers out of ALMs and retimes them into Hyper-Registers in the Intel® Stratix® 10 and Intel Agilex® 7 device interconnect.

The Fitter runs the Retime stage automatically following place and route when you target an Intel® Stratix® 10 or Intel Agilex® 7 device. Alternatively, start or stop the individual Retime stage in the Compilation Dashboard. After running register retiming, view the Fitter reports to optimize remaining critical paths.

To run register retiming:

  1. Click Retime on the Compilation Dashboard. The Compiler runs prerequisite stages automatically before running Retime stage.

  2. Review the results of the register retiming stage, as Step 2: Review Retiming Results describes.
