Is reconfiguration with different Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Programmer and Convert Programming File (CPF) tool versions supported with Intel® Stratix®10 devices?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Users should use the same Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro software version when using the Programmer for JTAG configuration and the Convert Programming File tool for any programming file generation, such as JIC/RBF/POF/RPD files. Otherwise, the configuration process will fail when a different version of the Programmer and Convert Programming File tools are used. For example:

    1. If you first configure the Intel® Stratix® 10 device with a SOF file using the Programmer version 17.1 and then reconfigure the same SOF file using a different Programmer version, such as version 17.1.1, the configuration will fail.

    2. Or, in Active Serial/Avalon-ST mode, if you configure the Intel® Stratix® 10 device with RPD/RBF file generated from the Convert Programming File version 17.1, the subsequent reconfiguration with:

    a. the RPD/RBF file generated from Convert Programming File version 17.1.1 will fail.

    b. the SOF configuration via JTAG with the Programmer version 17.1.1 will fail.

This issue impacts all Intel® Stratix® 10 devices.

    Resolution

    1. If the configuration fails, you need to power cycle the Intel® Stratix® 10 device for subsequent configuration.

    2. If you are upgrading to version 17.1.x JIC file to version 18.0 JIC file, use the Programmer version 17.1.x to program version 18.0 JIC file into QSPI, and power-cycle the device.
