Design Registration: Creating a Design Registration
Creating a New Design Registration
New Design Registrations are created from the Design Registration tab in the Intel Partner Portal.
From the Design Registrations tab, you can create a Design Registration by clicking the New button at the top right.
The New Design Registration window will open. There are three different sections that the partner will need to fill out:
- Project Information & Status
- End Customer Information
- Opportunity Information
Important—All fields with red asterisks are required.
- The Product Group field determines which group the Design Registration is routed to. The Product Group field will be automatically selected once products are added.
- ODMs will only be allowed to select Embedded/IOT Boards & Systems. Distributors will not be able to select this option.
- Note: For Design Registrations belonging to Embedded/IOT product groups for the ASMO or EMEA regions, a pre-check for the submitted Design Registration will be required before the approval process can start. Pre-checks are completed by your Intel Representative.
- The Draft Status When you create a New Design Registration the status will change to “Draft Status.” You will want to save Design Registration in "Draft" status so that you can finish registration at a later date without having to submit. Design Registrations in “Draft” status will not be reviewed/dispositioned until Partner fills out all required fields, products are added & clicks on the “Submit” button.
- The Description field can be used to provide a description of the Design Registration as well as business justification for the design.
- The Partner FAE is your technical owner, responsible for supporting the end customer’s design.
- The Partner FSR is an optional field for your Field Sales Representative, if applicable.
- The End Customer Section refers to the customer with whom you are designing the solution.
- The Military, Intelligence, Nuclear/biochemical, Defense, or Space (MINDS) use is a mandatory field. Select the response that indicates how Intel items are used in this Design Registration opportunity.
- The Decision Date should represent the forecasted date when the customer will decide on moving forward with designing an Intel product.
- The First Customer Ship Date is the estimated date when the customer will have production units available and shippable from their manufacturing site.
- The Production End Date is the estimated date when the customer will end manufacturing of their product. Additional orders aren’t expected to be placed with Intel past this date.
- The Intel Platform field identifies the Intel® Platform that is being sold on the Opportunity.
- The Product Segment field identifies Intel’s categorization of the product segment for the design.
- The Product Application field is dependent upon your Product Segment selection.
- The Vertical Market field indicates the end market where the product will be used.
- Click Save once all fields have been filled out. If you would like to save and create a new Design Registration header, click Save & New.
Newly Created Design Registration Header
Once you successfully create the header of a Design Registration, there are important fields that you need to verify:
- Registration Number: The registration number for a partner design is located at the top of the page and populated in the Registration Number field.
- Your information: Populated in the "System Information" section.
Now that you’ve created the header for your new Design Registration, you can add products to it.
NOTE: there is Chat functionality (See Post section below) that allows partners to Chat with Intel employees relevant to a Design Registration. Partners can add additional context to the project throughout the lifecycle of the registration process. Be aware that the Partner must have access to the manual portal to access/see Chat.
Add Products to Your Design Registration
Products can be added to a Design Registration from the Related Records tab in the Partner Portal.
To do this, click the New button in the Design Registration Products section on the Related Records tab.
In the New Design Registration Product window search for the product to add to your design.
Use the Product field to find the product. Begin typing the name of the product to add to pull up a list of potential products. If the product you are searching for doesn’t appear, click the magnifying glass for a comprehensive list. Alternately, you can search for by MMID, OLD MM# or Order Code. NOTE: If you are searching by MMID, OLD MM# or Order Code the Product field should get populated. But if you just enter product, it will not populate MMID.
Add the desired Quantity of the selected product and the target resale price to complete the required fields. The Target Resale Price would reflect the per unit target resale price. The Partner Tracking Number field allows you to input an internal tracking number, if you choose to do so.
Once you have filled out all fields, click Save to add the product to the Design Registration. You may add additional products by clicking Save & New and repeating the above steps.

Design Registration Status
The Status field for a Design Registration indicates the stage in which a Design Registration is in.
- The Draft Status: Design Registration will be in "Draft" status so that you can finish registration at later date without having to submit.
- Submitted: Design Registration has been created and submitted.
- Precheck Completed: For Design Registration requiring a precheck.
- Design Accepted for Approval: Intel Representative has accepted the Design Registration and is going through the approval process.
- Approved: Intel Representative has approved the Design Registration.
- Rejected: Intel Representative has rejected the Design Registration.
- Re-Submitted: When a product is added to an approved Design Registration, the status of the Design Registration changes to Re-submitted.
- Abandoned: If a Design Registration is still in Submitted status after 6 months from the creation date (not approved or rejected), then the status changes to Abandoned (locked for any edit or change).
Products can only be added by the partner to a Design Registration or by Intel to the Opportunity if the Opportunity is pending. If the Opportunity is closed or submitted for approval, a new design registration must be completed. Products on a single Opportunity cannot have different statuses.
Example Scenarios
- If a Design Registration is approved and the resulting Opportunity is also Submitted for claiming win or closed (Win Approved, Lost or Cancelled), no additional products can be added to Design Registration (Partner) or Opportunity (Intel)
- If a Design Registration is in Submitted or Approved status and the resulting Opportunity is still pending (stage Qualify, Define, Develop or Design), you can add new products to the Design Registration (partners) or Opportunity (Intel)
To add products to a Design registration Opportunity:
For Intel partners:
- Open the Design Registration and cancel the product that is not ready to claim as a win, which will cancel that product in the Opportunity as well.
- The Opportunity will now have only products that are ready to be submitted for approval to claim as a win.
- Clone that Design Registration and add that product to the new Design Registration. Also ensure that the Design Registration description calls out why this Design Registration was created.
