Opportunity Creation
Once a Design Registration is submitted, an Intel Representative must review it for approval. If it is approved, a corresponding Opportunity is systematically created and will immediately be viewable from the Opportunities tab.
You can click the Opportunity Name to open the Opportunity Details page.
Opportunity Management for Partners
When the Opportunity is created, you are responsible for updating the following as the Opportunity progresses:
- Opportunity Stage: Qualify, Define, Develop, Design, Design Win, Production Win, Lost, Cancelled, Production Lost, Production Cancelled. For additional information regarding Opportunity stages, download the pipeline infographic.
- Competitive Architecture: This field enables tracking the main architecture in competition for the Design Win, for instance ARM, RISC OTHER or SPARC. The actual Competitor’s Name and Competitor’s Product can be captured at the product level as different products may have different competitors and updating the quantities of the product as necessary.
- Dates: Decision Date, Customer Ship Date, Production End Date.
- Status Updates: Use the Add Status Update button to provide status details, next steps, key actions, and relevant comments.
- To update an Opportunity, click the Edit button on the page for the Opportunity.
To learn more about when Design Registration Opportunities can be edited, visit the Creating a Design Registration training page in the Design Registration Status section.
Important—For any other business responsibilities, you must work directly with your Intel Representative.
Design Opportunity to Design Win
For an Opportunity to be claimed as a Design Win, the following criteria must be met:
Unique Opportunity: A Design Opportunity must be unique = one opportunity for one motherboard/PCB/platform/form factor, whereby unique is defined as:
- Significant difference in layout such as in peripherals
- Significant difference in validation effort required because of a change in product industrial design (core complex, form factor, thermal, and/or mechanical) or a change in hardware/software components (like a different chipset)
- Adding new features, which leads to important enhancements (including a new, large volume model)
Documentation Provided: In order to document that the Opportunity is ready to claim as a Design Win, you need to attach proofs in the Opportunity Notes and Attachments section for the Opportunity. The Notes and Attachments section is located on the Related Records tab for the Opportunity.
Required proofs include:
- Proof of volume
- Proof of Design readiness
- Customer acceptance
*Examples of acceptable Proofs:
- RFQ/RFI response
- Purchase Order (PO) placed (minimum 2.500 USD or 50 units)
- Quote along with purchase transaction record snapshot from system or excel spreadsheet
- Customer email documenting meeting minutes/agreement of production
- Evidence of prototype (photo, video)
- PR articles/customer website screenshot with evidence of Intel product
- Reference to volume potential of the design within customer communication
- Any other document stating clearly the customer plans for volume production & go-to-market plans
Status Update: Once documentation has been provided, indicate that the design is ready to be claimed as a win using the Status Update field.
Once all criteria has been completed, your Intel Representative will submit the Opportunity.
