Home Servers: Automatic Daily Backup
The experience of a complete hard drive failure—and the cost and agony of all that lost data—made Chris Kenney realize the importance of having a reliable backup and data protection scheme for his three home computers. That’s why he got an Intel® processor-based HP MediaSmart Home Server*.Now he doesn’t have to worry about whether his data and computers are properly protected. He doesn’t have to fuss over it or monitor it; the Home Server just takes care of it—completely.
Although he hasn’t yet had to turn to his Home Server to restore one of his computers, he knows it will be a snap when the time comes. In his words, this has been Chris Kenney’s experience:
Simple Setup Got Us Going
“You really don’t even need any documentation; there are only a few connections to make. You plug it into your network with an Ethernet cable and plug it into the power, turn it on and install the software and it steps you through. It’s really simple.”
“The simple setup got us going right away with using it to backup our computers—which is at minimum what we wanted to do with it, provide a level of protection for our data.”
Backup! Lesson Learned
“We initially started using it to backup three computers in our home; we have two desktops and a laptop. We had previously lost a hard drive in a computer that wasn’t backed up, so we learned a lesson the hard way.”
“Now we protect ourselves by doing an image backup with the HP Home Server. In the event of a hard drive failure or even if you want to just change to a larger hard drive because they are getting cheaper all the time, it’s fairly straightforward to do with the software and procedure that HP provides.”
